Project name: Reverse Coal

This pilot plant for Lapwing Energy is part of a UK government–supported initiative led by the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero to decarbonise the agricultural sector.
As a first-of-its-kind project, it showcases Anergy’s high-temperature pyrolysis (HTP) technology for converting agricultural biomass into clean energy and carbon-negative solutions. The produced biochar will be sequestered in farmland soils, enhancing nutrient retention and reducing losses during peatland rewetting.
Electricity generated will supply local farm demand, with surplus exported to the grid, while recovered waste heat will be used for feedstock drying.

Throughput: 2,640 TPA
Feedstock: Willows

Output: Biochar & Energy
Location: UK
